August, 2015
Greetings Floyd Families:
I hope that your summer has been an enjoyable one and that you are having a great time with your children. Even though the regular school year ended in June I can assure you that our teachers have been busy preparing to make the 2015-2016 school year a great one for your child. We are excited to share many of these wonderful learning opportunities for your child at our open house which will be held on September 2 from 5:45 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. We hope you can join us!
Our focus this summer has been on looking at whatever educational data that we have to make sure that we are getting successful outcomes from all children. This begins in the classroom. I am so proud to work with the teachers that we have on staff and can assure you that your child will have a fantastic year no matter which teacher they may have. If you have forgotten which classroom your child was assigned to you may call Rhonda and she would be happy to share that with you.
Another exciting development was the awarding of a grant to our school to expand our enormously successful Nature Kindergarten to First grade. Our teachers have spent time planning this summer and look forward to continuing to give your children the best possible early childhood experiences.
Many parents have asked “what supplies does my child need?” While the answer to this question varies a bit from grade to grade overall we ask parents to provide very little. Our school provides your child with all of the “basics” necessary for learning (pencils, paper, books, crayons, etc.). It is helpful for your child to have a backpack to bring items to and from school. In addition, teachers are always accepting of items for the classroom such as Clorox wipes, Kleenex, and dry erase markers!
As you can see we have been busy! I hope you enjoy the remaining days of summer vacation and we look forward to seeing “our kids” walk through the doors once again this year.
Kids First,
Rod Dishaw, Principal
