Dear Bullock Creek Families:
On behalf of the Bullock Creek Board of Education, our staff and myself, I am thrilled to welcome our students back for the 2015-16 school year. The start of a new school year is exciting for all of us. Staff have worked diligently throughout the summer to prepare each building for your child’s return. We hope that you have had the opportunity to relax and enjoy family time this summer.
As you may already know, our district had the chance to celebrate the retirement of Mr. Charlie Schwedler in August. We are grateful for his incredible investment and we are very sad to see him go. Mr. Schwedler served at Bullock Creek for more than twenty years and will be missed. He will always be a Creeker and will remain a valued member of our community.
On August 3, 2015, I began serving as your Superintendent. This is the beginning of my 17th year at Bullock Creek. I had the opportunity to teach in the high school for 8 years, to serve as high school assistant principal for 4 years and as middle school principal for 4 years. I grew up in the Bullock Creek District, graduated in 1992 and cannot think of a better place to serve as Superintendent.
We do have a few new hires and position changes for the 2015-16 school year:
- Mark Murray was hired as our new bus mechanic due to the retirement of Tom Waskevich. Mark’s children attend Bullock Creek. He previously worked for Bay City Public Schools and the Michigan State Police.
- Jennifer Kowalski was hired as a speech therapist for Floyd and Bullock Creek Middle School. Jennifer previously worked for Midland Public Schools.
- Curt Moses, teacher from Floyd, has taken over the responsibilities of Middle School Principal. Curt has been a teacher in the district for 17 years.
- Troy Mason was hired to teach 4th grade at Floyd. Troy is from Bay City and has experience teaching in the Pinconning area.
This year we will continue to build upon some excellent programs that began last year. Project Lead The Way was started in the High School last year and will be implemented in our Middle School this year. Project Based Learning opportunities will be made available in many classrooms and began as part of a training our teachers received last year. We will continue to support a STEM coach for the 2015-2016 school year. These opportunities have been made available to us by the generous support of The Dow Chemical Company.
Bullock Creek is committed to excellence in education and providing the best possible learning experience for every child. We continue to focus on school improvement. I am proud of our staff and their daily investment in each child. Let’s work together to make this a great year!
