Accelerated Reader, a reading management software, provides teachers at Pine River with an easy and effective way to monitor all forms of guided reading practice. Teachers get detailed, objective data to target instruction and ensure success for every student, regardless of level, from new readers to those preparing for college. AR helps to focus attention on careful reading of books, which improves students’ critical-thinking skills and builds reading skills. Teachers are able to obtain reliable, objective information about each student. Six different types of quizzes report valuable data on students’ textbook reading, library book reading, literacy skills development, and more. AR is employed to continuously guide students to appropriate books and curriculum which means that every student is challenged without being frustrated.
The AR process is fairly straightforward:
- The student reads a library or textbook selection. All types of student reading are monitored, including guided, paired, literature-based, and textbook reading.
- The student takes a quiz on a computer. At Pine River we offer more than 2100 quizzes about books in our library.
- The quizzes provide assessment information to help teachers motivate reading, monitor progress, and target instruction to accelerate reading growth.Teachers get easy-to-read reports on the reading level and comprehension skills of each student to guide instruction and help the student select more reading materials.
