Mrs. Brown receives 2012 Heart of the Community Award

2012 Heart of the Community Award
JENNIFER BROWN
Recognizes a group or an individual who has demonstrated a passion for
serving our community through volunteering.

Within compassion is the word passion, and Jennifer Brown has a passion for
serving the youth of our community. As a counselor at Bullock Creek High
School, she helps to guide students through their educational and life
choices. Jennifer also understands that the education that takes place
outside of the classroom can be as important.

She is committed to being there for the kids of Bullock Creek-serving as a
chaperone at many events like the Teen Plymouth Pool Parties, Loons teen
events, volunteering at The ROCK and serving as a Girls on the Run coach.

A dedicated volunteer, Jennifer finds creative ways to give back to the
community, while instilling that same drive for stewardship in the students
that she serves. She leads a student group called Creekers for a Cause,
which rallies high school students around a local cause. [There is a group
of them here tonight.] They raise money and awareness for local non-profits
each year, and also assemble teams that run in the Sanford and Sun triathlon
each summer. To date, they have raised over $10,000.

She recently secured a grant to host the first-ever “Challenge Day” at
Bullock Creek. This one-day event was tied to Non-Violence Week and strove
to demonstrate that while we may have differences, we are unified by the
struggles we all face-many that are invisible. According to one nominator,
“The one-day event literally changed the lives of several of our students.”

She went on to say, “If you need someone to help you with anything in this
community, there is no one I know more willing than Jennifer Brown.”
