When individuals come together as a community, great things can happen. But when students at Bullock Creek High School come together, something incredibly special starts happening!
Creekers for a Cause, or “Team Creek”, was formed in 2006 by high school teacher Nancy Hoefer. The purpose of the group was to raise money and solicit donations for a variety of causes. Originally founded as Creekers Against Cancer, it’s a multifocused fundraising machine run by 33 club members, all Bullock Creek High School students. The group is guided by advisors Jennifer Brown, a school guidance counselor, and Nancy Hoefer.
The students organize and implement fundraisers throughout the year. Some of their events have included bake sales, can drives, silent auctions, carnival games, a basketball shootout and coupon book sales, to name just a few. The Creekers’ cornerstone fundraiser is the annual Sanford and Sun Triathlon which draws more than 500 participants.
Since its inception, the club has raised more than $30,000 and has donated to a variety of organizations and individuals in need, including:
- American Cancer Society
- African orphanages
- Jason Krenzke, a teacher
- Jayden Lamb, a student
- Make-A-Wish Foundation
- Multiple myeloma research
- Katie Johns, a student
- Shelterhouse
- Team Mary Juengel
This impressive group of students has taken community involvement to a new level, reaching out to those in need. Their philanthropic efforts are truly touching lives.
