BCHS Families,
Here are some news and notes from Bullock Creek High School:
1. Parents and guardians of seniors, the Senior Newsletter for 2014-15 is now posted on the Counseling page of our website. There are many important dates and deadlines that we don’t want you or your senior to miss. Also, the Scholarship link has been updated. You can find both the Scholarships and the Senior Newsletter links by going to our website:
www.bcreek.org, then “Our District”, and then “Counseling”.
2. On Thursday, information regarding Sharing Tree and Christmas Community Closet information was sent home with students who qualify. If you have questions or need additional forms, please contact our Counseling Office.
3. Is your student interested in a career in science or technology? The STEM Explorer Post is a career education worksite-based program for young men and women ages 13 through 20 years old. The purpose of the program is to provide students an opportunity to learn about technology-related careers through tours, demonstrations, and hands-on opportunities so they can experience what these careers are all about! Students can stop by the Career Center to pick up a flyer about their upcoming Kick-Off Meeting. Also attached is information about the registration kick-off event on September 24th from 6-8 PM at the Dow Chemical Visitor Center off of Washington Street (just before the gate) in Midland. This event is designed for students and their parents to get a glimpse of what the STEM Explorer Post has to offer for this year’s program.
4. Northwood University is hosting College Night on Thursday, October 2 from 6:30-8:00pm at their Hach Center. This free event will have over 100 Representatives from colleges, universities, trade/technical schools and military.
5. On Wednesday, October 15, BCHS will be administering the PSAT/NMSQT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test). This is a standardized exam that assesses the students’ mathematical, written, and verbal skills. In the junior year, students are eligible to compete for the National Merit Scholarships. Freshmen and sophomores are able to take the exam as a practice. The exam will be administered in the Distance Learning Room 7:55-11:00am. The cost is $15, and a check or money order is needed to reserve your student’s seat. We only have 60 tests, so please register in the Career Center as soon as possible. The deadline to register is October 9. If you have any questions, please contact Jennifer Brown at brownj@bcreek.org.
6. The Bullock Creek High School parking lot will be going under some construction starting next week as we fix some of our drains before the cold weather sits in. What this means is that certain parking spots will not be available for students or visitors to the building in the evening. Students whose parking spots may be affected will be instructed to use the back parking lot spaces or they can also use the gravel parking lot section by the tennis courts. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but it is important to make these improvements before the winter season.
7. Picture Day at Bullock Creek High School is Wednesday, October 1st. Picture forms were sent home with students this week. If you need additional order forms, they can be picked up in the main office. Also, you can order online by going to www.photofactoryusa.com and using the online order code: bchs.
8. Attached is information from the Children’s Grief Center.
9. Attached is a flyer from our Soccer Team in regard to a clothing order opportunity. If you are interested, you can return the attached form to the high school office by Monday, September 22.
10. Attached is a flyer from the Bullock Creek Youth Football League. The BCYFL participates in a fundraising opportunity with Whitetails Unlimited. Fifty percent of the profit from this event goes directly back to Bullock Creek Youth Football Leage and this money is used to support the 5th thru 8th grade youth football teams in Bullock Creek. Among other things, this event allows BCYFL to purchase new equipment and helps keep their registration costs down. Attached is a ticket order form for the event. If you would like additional information, please contact Dennis Thomas, BCYFL President, by visiting their website.
11. The BC Equestrian Team will be competing at the Midland County Fairgrounds from 5pm on Friday(9/26) thru Sunday(9/28) afternoon. This competition will be for the Regional Championship.
