200 Chinook Salmon have arrived from the Platte River Fish Hatchery. They have adjusted well to the 47 degree water temperature and are developing inside their eggs. Looking at the eggs up close their two little black eyes have developed and you can begin to see where their spine is growing. The kids can see the eggs move and twist around as the salmon inside rotates. It’s very cool!
Now that the webcam seems to be working consistently you can log on and watch the tank. The salmon don’t seem to like the brightness of the florescent light. Soon I’ll be installing a dim LED tank light so you can check them out in the evening. I expect them to begin hatching around mid December. Stay tuned.
