Water Testing

We have now hatched out all of our salmon.  They are actively swimming around the tank with short resting periods.  The fish cam seems to be working on a fairly consistent basis so I hope you’re logging on and watching the fish.  The water is now in the process of clearing up.  After the eggs hatched there were a lot of egg shells and other proteins in the water that combined with the aerator and created some cloudy water.  Several times a week we test the water for Ph, Nitrates, Nitrites, Alkalinity, Chlorine, Hardness and Ammonia.

The alevin are still feeding on their yolk sac and should be for a couple more weeks.  As they absorb the nutrients, the sac will disappear and this is called the “buttoning up” phase.  We may need to begin feeding over the holiday break.  Keep watching!
