What a Great Weekend to be a Lancer! That thought has been reverberating through my mind for the last couple of days as I reflected on the events of this past Friday and Saturday.
In case you missed it, here is a quick rundown. On Friday our community came together once again to help one of our own with a fabulously successful fundraiser sponsored by Creekers for a Cause for Floyd Kindergarten student Katie Johns. There were extraordinary donations made by businesses and individuals alike…even one of the basketball officials donated his check and his winnings from the 50/50 drawing to Katie…just fantastic.
Also on Friday night, the Bullock Creek High School National Honor Society sponsored a blood drive, the Sports Boosters fed us with a Nacho/Taco Bar, the Youth Wrestlers were signing up and having their weigh in for Saturdays meet, and a great crowd with a jacked-up student section watched the Men’s and Women’s Varsity Basketball Teams take care of business while playing Shepherd. The incredible part of all this was the fact that many of these folks, regardless of their reason for being with us, including our friends from Shepherd, made their way to Katie’s fundraiser to help out as best they could.
Saturday brought the Youth Wrestling tournament that brought nearly 400 wrestlers to Bullock Creek, along with nearly 1500 spectators where our kids did a fantastic job. This massive undertaking was ran flawlessly by a great group of dedicated parents (many of whom are alumni of BC) and coaches, all volunteering for our kids.
Saturday was also “Kid’s Day” at the Midland Mall where we had a booth representing Bullock Creek manned again by fantastic volunteers. It is hard to say exactly how many of our folks were there that day, but I think it is fair to say we were extremely well represented from the smiles that were adorning many of our kids faces!
So a huge thank to all of the volunteers, donators and sponsors – what a truly fantastic weekend!
I always tell people what a great place to live and learn Bullock Creek is, this was another incredible example.
Take care,
Charlie
